10 Tips For Ramping Up Your Blog's Engagement

Do you have a company blog?  Are you looking for ways to get more engagement with your audience? 

Here's 10 tips to help lift your blog's engagement:

 1. Be sociable

Simply posting up your blog content on your website isn't going to get your posts reaching their audience.

Make sure your blog posts are easily sharable with social buttons promnantly displayed on each blog page.  Kick start your social shares by asking team members and friends to share through their social accounts.

2. Use an email list to distribute your content

Another way of distributing your content is to create an email list for a regular updates of your latest blog posts.  We use Campaign Monitor to send fortnightly emails containing our recent posts.  

Be sure to include a newsletter signup form on your website as well as inviting readers of your blog to signup in the footer of each post.

3.  Make audio or video version of your blog posts

Video or audio provides a novel way to present your content that is more entertaining than straight text on a screen.  Hootsuite uses video to present it's digital updates while Social Media Examiner often records podcasts of interviews on social media topics.


4. Publish frequently

One major tip or rule even for blogging is to have regular and frequent posts.  Making sure their is new content for returning visitors will maintain the interest of your audience.  Test different times for posting and distributing blogs to find the optimal time for reaching the most people.  

Use Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics and Google Analytics to get data for impressions and interactions as well as where your traffic is coing from.


5. Optimise for SEO

When writing your post make sure you include the key words relating to your topic to capture potential searches.  You can use Google's Keyword Planner to help with this.  Put these key words in your blogs keyword tagging feature.  

Ensure your Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions are complete.  These are the snippets of text that appear beneath your company's web link in search results.  They help to increase your websites visibilty in search results as well as giving searchers a quick summary of what the pages on your website contain.

6. Create Bite Sized Content

Break down your posts into easily digestable pieces rather than a large paragraph of words that will be off putting to readers scanning your post.  Make room for images and some white space between points to make it easier to read.


7. Create quality, useful and up to date content

Spend time on your content to research and develop your posts to create quality information that your audience will find useful.  


8. Broaden your topics

Write about topics other than the products and services you offer.  Focusing on content that relates to your brand but not directly a sales pitch will be better received by your audience. 

Red Bull is a great example of sharing content that is not not directly related to their product.  They produce regular content for their Red Bull Music Academy website that helps reflect what their brand is about rather than the product itself.

9. Write more enticing headlines

This is not always easy but given the number of click-bait style headlines that get thrown into people's news feeds it is necessary to grab the attention of your audience.  

Use a working title when writing your posts and then try to capture essence of the piece in your title.  Adding in a humourous twist can help to capture one's attention.

10. Break detailed topics into series

As we mentioned, people like to scan bite-sized pieces when they are browsing online.  So if you're wanting to cover a topic that requires more depth, break it into parts and deliver it in a series of posts.  We are doing this with our Social Media tips, first we have created a 'Getting Started With Pinterest' with the plan being to produce an advanced Pinterest guide at a future date.
