Twitter Updates It's Promoted Tweets To Look More Like Regular Tweets is reporting Twitter is changing the way it's promoted tweets to look more like regular tweets.  The change will see the yellow badge removed from promoted tweets designed to blend in more with your regular news feed.

Twitter announces new initiatives for advertisers

Twitter is partnering with Google to use it's DoubleClick service to enable them "to measure when conversions result from views and other actions on Twitter".  Additionally Twitter will also make it's advertising space available through DoubleClick Bid Manager.  Read Lance Ulanoff's comments about why this might be such a great thing for Twitter users


Twitter Q1 Results Announced 

Twitter's Q1 results were leaked via it's own network, highlighting it's effectiveness at spreading breaking news incredibly quickly.  

Here are the key results for Q1:

  • Average Monthly Active Users (MAUs) were 302 million for the first quarter, up 18%
  • Average Mobile MAUs represented approximately 80% of total MAUs
  • $436 million quarterly revenue, an increase of 74% over last year
  • Advertising revenue totaled $388 million, an increase of 72% year-over-year
  • GAAP net loss was $162 million for the first quarter of 2015 compared to $132 million in the same period in 2014.

Instagram Introduces New Filters and Emojis

Based on the positive response from the new filters Instagram added in December it is added an additional 3 with plans to regularly add to them in the future.

As well they have also introduced the ability to add Emojis to your hastags by searching for them in the Explore page.

Facebook's Messenger Adds Video Calls

Facebook has enabled video calls to it's Messenger platform for users to video-to-video call. 


Facebook Q1 Results Announced 

Facebook released it's Q1 results with Mark Zuckerburg saying, "This was a strong start to the year.  We continue to focus on serving our community and connecting the world."  

Here are the key results for Q1:

  • Daily active users (DAUs) were 936 million on average for March 2015, an increase of 17% year-over-year.
  • Mobile DAUs were 798 million on average for March 2015, an increase of 31% year-over-year.
  • Monthly active users (MAUs) were 1.44 billion as of March 31, 2015, an increase of 13% year-over-year.
  • Mobile MAUs were 1.25 billion as of March 31, 2015, an increase of 24% year-over-year.
  • Revenue from advertising was $3.32 billion, a 46% increase from the same quarter last year. 
  • Mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 73% of advertising revenue for the first quarter of 2015

Facebook Offers Publishers All Revenue From Certain Ads

The Wall Street Journal reports that Facebook is offering to let publishers keep all the revenue from certain advertisements, in a bid to persuade them to distribute content through the social network, according to people familiar with the matter.
